About Sunday Dietetics

Hello and welcome to Sunday Dietetics!
My name is Emily and I am an Accredited Practicing Dietitian and Nutritionist.

I am a certified fertility and pregnancy dietitian with a specific interest in women's and children's health.
I am passionate about empowering everyone to achieve their health, family and lifestyle goals through optimising their diet and relationship with food.

I help women feel informed, equipped and confident to make food and lifestyle choices that support their health goals - whether that is optimising your overall physical, mental and hormonal health; reducing symptoms related to a health condition; falling pregnant or optimising your pregnancy and postpartum journey.

Everyone's health goals, journey and lifestyle are unique.
I am committed to understanding you and your individual needs to develop personally tailored goals and strategies that are realistic and practical.
About me
I have always wanted to help people achieve healthy and happy lives.
But when I finished school I didn't know exactly in what way.
I first completed a Bachelor in Psychology at the University of New South Wales. After learning more about health psychology, eating disorders, developmental psychology and the importance and impact of nutrition in health and wellbeing I realised I wanted to support people by providing them with practical nutrition advice. So I completed my Bachelor and Masters of Nutrition and Dietetics followed by additional training to become a certified fertility and pregnancy dietitian through the Early Life Nutrition Alliance.

Looking back, it makes sense I became a dietitian. My sister was diagnosed with coeliac disease when I was just 3 years old, back in at a time when gluten free foods were only available in health food shops. So for as long as I can remember I have been reading nutrition labels and preparing allergen friendly homemade meals and snacks. Then as a teenager I experienced a number of hormonal challenges (diagnosed hypothyroidism which caused anovulation), followed by hypothalamic amenorrhea and an eating disorder in my early twenties and later unexplained infertility.

As a child I lived in Papua New Guinea where I witnessed the result of poverty and inadequate health care on maternal and childhood disease and death. Through this and my own experiences I became passionate about women's health and supporting less advantaged populations. This led me to complete research in how to optimise perinatal nutrition for women in the Pacific and contribute to the Nutrition Guidelines for Pregnancy in Tonga.
The more I learn from nutrition research the more I have come to appreciate the power of nutrition interventions in supporting overall health, as well as women's health, fertility and pregnancy. After working as a dietitian and in health prevention and promotion in the public health system for a number of years, I set up Sunday Dietetics and now help women and families with empathetic and personalised nutrition support.

It is an absolute privilege to walk alongside people on their health, fertility and perinatal journey. My goal is to always ensure you get the very best care you need. That's why I am dedicated to improving my knowledge and skills through ongoing training and research; collaborating with colleagues across the health system to ensure you receive holistic and cohesive care; and partnering with you to ensure the strategies we develop are achievable and in line with your values.

If you would like to chat or learn more about how I can support you or someone you know please get in contact, I'd love to hear from you.

My approach
My goal is to empower you with the knowledge and skills you need to take control of your health and achieve your goals.
I believe that nutrition can have a profound impact on our hormones, mental health and fertility. That's why at Sunday Dietetics my approach focuses on providing you with personalised guidance that is unique for your body. I take a holistic approach that considers your diet in the broader context of your medical history, biochemistry and lifestyle - looking at all the pieces of the puzzle and connect the dots! Together, we will create a clear plan to address each component and optimise your health from all angles.

I believe in gentle nutrition - the principle that what we eat should support out physical and mental health by:
-
focusing on nutrient-dense foods - not restricting or following strict food rules or meal plans
-
eating foods that bring joy (I call these "soul foods") and nourishes our bodies ("body foods")
-
recognising that a healthy diet is flexible and not "perfect".
